Next-Gen Healthcare

With the introduction of new technologies pressing challenges are being tackled. Innovation is pushing boundaries and traditional practices are being disrupted.  Here are but a few of the inventions we’ve been watching.

The Joëlette Kid

Get out and about with this all-terrain stroller for children under 30 kg. Very comfortable and safe, this hiking and running stroller is very easy to handle, fold and store. With single-track wheel technology, the Joelette kid goes everywhere, even on rough roads. It can be driven by only one person. However, a pair of sturdy front arms is available for an extra companion to use when help is needed to get past obstacles or through more challenging terrain. Designed in collaboration with an orthopaedic centre, the frame and shock absorbers reduce vibrations for a more comfortable experience. There is also an optional interface that can replace the seat for the running stroller application.

A new generation of magnotherapy

Magnetotherapy is a physical medicine procedure that allows treatment with the application of a high intensity magnetic field in continuous or pulsed mode. This method uses the positive effects of low-frequency alternating magnetic field on the body to support regenerative processes – accelerates bone union, relieves edema and pain as well as shorten the time needed for recovery. It enables effective pain and edema treatment, even during post-surgery healing phase. Magnetic fields can be used to treat conditions in the following areas: Orthopedics, Sports medicine, Aesthetic medicine, Rheumatology, Neurology, Urology, Dermatology, Angiology, Gynecology and Stomatology. During the painless comfortable treatment, the magnetic field penetrates every cell to supports cell repair processes, facilitating the penetration of oxygen and nutrients into its interior. Magnetoherapy has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-edema and regenerative effects.

A Communication Glove for Deaf and Blind People

A common way for deafblind people to communicate is the hand-touch alphabet, Lorm. Researchers from Berlin have developed the Mobile Lorm Glove. Worn like a normal glove it utilizes fabric pressure sensors on the palm that enable the user to “lorm” messages onto the hand. These messages are then sent to his mobile phone via Bluetooth and automatically transmitted to the mobile device of one or more recipients in form of a text message. The process works in both directions. The developer’s next step is to teach the lorm glove to decode direct speech and, in the long run, even enable the user to read audiobooks.
